Poverty Insights

warning

Warning: beware of organizations or individuals who believe that fighting poverty includes “population control.” They think, wrongly, that if there were LESS people, there would be MORE food & other resources available for people. They are WRONG. With more people, we have more individuals to help create & sustain infrastructures that can & will alleviate poverty, assist the disabled & elderly, & create good communities. Those in favor of so-called “population control” usually also support abortion & maybe even assisted suicide or other forms of euthanasia . It’s a slippery slope that is the EXACT OPPOSITE of God’s intention for the world.

11/4/15 photos from the GLOBAL FOOD SUMMIT @ UCI

LOTS of great speakers, important information, and most importantly at a food summit, excellent food ! Seriously, it was a great lunch, and the speakers were spot-on ! One of the BIG TAKE-AWAYS among many was the IMPORTANCE of ALGAE...or how important it COULD BE if we as a society get informed and start pushing for it to be used in a large-scale way rather than alfalfa (which is using up millions of TONS of our water, and literally going to China ! ) If we use algae in a large-scale way we can SAVE A LOT of WATER, and also money, among other things.
and it's all about "FOOD SECURITY" ...a new term for me...just an average guy sitting amongst BIG BRAINS...(ie doctorate students & big-time professors from all over the USA) ...; there are a LOT of people who don't have much food security (ie they are too poor to afford a decent meal for themselves and/or their kids every day without public assistance, and sometimes even with public assistance they still barely make it, even in California, or especially in California, and even in OC , ...YES even here in Orange COunty there are a lot of poor people, especially in Santa Ana which i learned is the "poorest city in the entire USA!" , BUT also even in areas you might not expect there to be issues of food security. So check your stereotypes especially in OC where they want to brand themselves as having everything perfect...but it's not,...for too many people, they are not getting enough nutrition.
